A prolific painter in oils and watercolour in his retirement, Rodney has been particularly attracted by the spectacular skies, sailing barges and coasts in Norfolk and Suffolk. He also enjoys sketching and pen and wash. He has attended many art courses and has been greatly influenced by some of the Old Masters’ techniques, as well as a few 19th/20th century watercolourists.
He has recently done a number of commissions for dog portraits capturing their adoring nature and expressive eyes.
Rodney seldom offers a painting for sale, although he has sold at exhibitions, an auction and also privately. Many of his water colours have attracted the front cover of his local churches magazine.
A keen gardener, flowers have also appealed and his latest acrylic painting is of a Christmas Rose, now on display for the first time at Kimpton Art Show. This appeared on the front cover of ‘The Vine’, Wheathampstead Churches Together magazine December 2017/January 2018.
His other interest is in buildings, particularly churches – from Russia to the UK, in ‘pen and wash’. He has also illustrated his own book, St Peter’s Church, Gustard Wood – A Living History.
