Anna Perlin 2023

Anna is an award winning painter and print maker creating her distinctive work from her Harpenden studio. Following on from reaching the semi-finals of Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year 2016, Anna won Artists and Illustrators Artist of the Year 2017.

Anna’s original prints are a type of collagraph using Carborundum which is the ‘grit’ used to make sandpaper. By mixing it in a variety of ratios with glue and painting it onto a printing plate which is then inked up intaglio, tonal ranges can be created producing a relatively painterly print.

Colour is added during printing with handmade chine colle (collage) and after printing with pastel or watercolour. Anna only makes around 10 prints and experiments with the colours and chine colle so that every print is individual.

A childhood growing up in the countryside gave Anna a long-time love of the British landscape, inspiring much of my work. Her original collagraph prints use carborundum to create a painterly feel, and feature hand-made collage and hand-colouring making each print unique.
